Lingora Privacy Policy

Version: 1.2.1
Last Updated: 10 September 2026
Effective Date: 10 September 2026
Applies to: Lingora for Android, package com.lingora

Summary

The app performs translations on-device without creating accounts, showing ads, or running its own analytics. Lingora does not upload, sync or back up your screen contents or your translations. However, Google ML Kit (the translation engine) transmits its own technical diagnostics and a per-installation identifier to Google—but never your screenshots, text, or translations. Lingora Pro is an optional one-time in-app purchase processed entirely by Google Play.

Section 2: What Lingora Reads, and When

The app reads your screen only when you ask it to, by tapping its floating bubble or by turning on Continuous translation. Android requires you to grant screen-capture permission through the system consent dialog before either mode can start; this consent dialog appears every session and cannot be cached, bypassed, or granted in advance.

Manual mode: tapping the bubble captures a single frame of your screen, which is processed and discarded as described in Section 10.

Continuous translation: after you grant the same one-time session consent, Lingora automatically re-captures the screen at short intervals (approximately every 200 milliseconds) for as long as this mode is turned on, so translations keep pace with on-screen text as it changes. This uses the single permission grant for that session — Android does not ask again mid-session — but it means many more frames are captured and processed than in manual mode. Each frame is still processed and discarded the same way; none are saved to disk (Section 10).

Lingora has no access to your camera and declares no camera permission.

Section 3: What Lingora Stores

The following stays in the app's private, on-device storage and is never transmitted anywhere:

Nothing in that history leaves your device. Uninstalling removes all of the app-private data listed above.

Section 4: When Lingora Uses the Network

4.1 Language Pack Downloads: Selecting a language triggers a file request to Google's servers with nothing about you transmitted.

4.2 ML Kit Diagnostics: Google ML Kit sends a per-installation identifier and technical diagnostics including device specs, performance metrics, and languages used—but never screenshots, text, or translations. We cannot switch it off, as Google provides no disable option. This data is encrypted in transit via HTTPS.

4.3 Lingora Pro Purchases: When you buy Lingora Pro, the purchase itself is handled entirely by Google Play Billing — Lingora never receives your payment card or Google account details. See Section 5.

Section 5: Buying Lingora Pro

Lingora's whole manual translation product is free, unlimited and ad-free. Lingora Pro is an optional one-time purchase (product ID lingora_pro_unlock) that adds continuous translation, per-app memory and the name glossary. It is not a subscription.

Google Play handles the payment, not Lingora. The purchase runs through Google Play's billing system: Google Play shows the price, takes the payment and issues the receipt.

What Lingora keeps afterwards is one small record in its private storage on your device: whether Pro is unlocked, the identifier of the product bought (lingora_pro_unlock), and when that was last confirmed. There is no price in it, no order number and no account identifier. It is not transmitted anywhere — Lingora has no server to send it to — and it is not backed up or synced off your phone.

That record exists so that Pro keeps working when your phone is offline. Uninstalling Lingora removes it. If a purchase is refunded, the app clears it the next time Google Play answers, and the Pro features close again.

Restoring a purchase. Because Lingora has no account, your Google Play account is what proves you bought Pro. Reinstalling the app, or using it on another device signed in to the same Google account, restores Pro — silently when Google Play answers, or with the Restore purchase button on the Lingora Pro screen.

Refunds and cancellations are handled by Google Play under its own policies. Lingora has no visibility into refund processing beyond the entitlement state Google Play reports back to the app.

What Google Play holds is Google's. Your order, receipt and payment history live in your Google Play account, not with us. We can access order-level information made available by Google Play for purchase support and refund handling, such as the order date, price, billing country, and information used by Google Play to identify or locate an order. We can also issue refunds through Google Play. Lingora does not receive your payment card number, full billing address, or Google account credentials. Google's own privacy policy governs what Google holds.

Section 6: What Lingora Does Not Do

Lingora does not use accounts, does not collect personal data, does not show advertising, does not run its own analytics, does not include its own crash reporting, does not sell data, does not build user profiles, and does not make automated decisions about you. Purchasing Lingora Pro does not change any of this — see Section 5 for what little purchase-related data is involved.

Section 7: Permissions and Rationale

Lingora requests the following at install/runtime:

INTERNET, ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE, SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW, FOREGROUND_SERVICE, FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PROJECTION, POST_NOTIFICATIONS, and com.android.vending.BILLING (required by Google Play Billing to process Lingora Pro purchases — see Section 5).

Lingora also declares com.lingora.DYNAMIC_RECEIVER_NOT_EXPORTED_PERMISSION. This is a permission Android's own build tooling adds automatically to keep certain internal app components from being reachable by other apps; it does not grant Lingora access to anything, and no user data is involved.

In addition, Lingora requests the Usage Access special permission (PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS) through Android's system settings. This is used only to detect which app is currently in the foreground, so Continuous translation can automatically suggest or apply the profile you created for that app (Section 3). This permission is capable of revealing which apps you open and when, but Lingora only uses it for this on-device, momentary foreground-app check — that information is never transmitted anywhere and is not logged or stored. (This is separate from the app profiles described in Section 3, which you create and save yourself.) You can deny or revoke this permission at any time in Android system settings; Continuous translation's automatic profile-matching will not work without it, but the rest of the app is unaffected.

Lingora requests no camera, no microphone, no location, no contacts and no external storage access.

Section 8: Your Rights

Data-subject requests resolve locally since we hold nothing about you on any server. For ML Kit data held by Google, Google's privacy policy and its own controls apply. For Lingora Pro purchase data, Google Play's privacy policy and controls apply. EEA/UK users may contact the publisher or lodge complaints with data protection authorities. California users: Lingora does not sell personal information under CCPA/CPRA.

Section 9: Children

The app collects no personal data from any user of any age. ML Kit diagnostics are collected by Google regardless of user age but contain no personal information and no content.

Section 10: Security

History, settings, Continuous translation app profiles, and glossary entries use Android's app-private storage isolation. Your screenshots, the text Lingora reads and your translations are never transmitted. ML Kit traffic and Google Play Billing traffic use HTTPS.

Section 11: Policy Changes

Updates occur before implementation changes ship, with "Last updated" dates adjusted accordingly and material changes noted in release notes.
